SLOW CIRCUITS LIBRARY @ FIX IT WITH PIGGY
OUR APPROACH
Slow Circuits Library is a library of refurbished technology built within community-based organisations. To localise our impact away from global supply chains, our libraries create a circular model for the tech lifecycle, so you can rent, repair & recycle your tech all in one place. Through device borrowing, we create access, abundance and communal interdependence while reducing e-waste.
In April 2026, we opened the first Slow Circuits Library at Fix it with Piggy in the Bronx, a full-service tech repair shop and learning center founded by Ashonda Culcleasure. In a borough most impacted by the digital divide, the library serves as a tech commons, where residents can rent, repair and recycle their devices in their own neighbourhood. Our library has a total of 30 devices ready for free checkout, including laptops, projectors, tablets, Kindles & speakers.
Alongside Fix it with Piggy, we partnered with WALTER, a Brownsville-based recycling business, to divert devices that would otherwise be sent to the landfill, repair them, and bring them into our library.
Technology has a long history of arriving in neighbourhoods with little consultation. Libraries are co-designed from inventory to check-out process to build new relationships with technology that centre needs and desires. Residents are not end users but collaborators, shaping which devices are stocked, what repair workshops are offered, and how the library adapts to local needs.
By promoting repair and reuse over replacement, the first Slow Circuits Library has saved over 5.4 tonnes of CO₂e and created a financial impact of $130,000 in a borough most impacted by the digital divide.
